Back to School!
After a fulfilling and eventful summer of traveling and moving I am excited to start our busy Fall Season! I am looking forward to jeans, boots and pumpkins...and everything that goes with pumpkins.
This week, my kids all transition into school and after school activities...all on different schedules. For example, my youngest is in preschool and will be going to school 3 days a week. In order to manage a busy and active family, I need a plan and a schedule. Below I have outlined what I do to be successful:
Goals- Make sure to set your goals. What do you want to accomplish this Fall in regards to your fitness, health and family? Line up your activities with your priorities.

Set a day to Plan- I typically plan on Sundays. I take time to schedule my week and figure out our meal plan. If I leave dinner to chance, the result is often stress inducing. With sports, music lessons, gymnastics and various other after school activities, as well as homework I need to be prepared so I can feed my family well and most importantly on time. I don't know about your family but my family gets “Hangry” if they do not eat on time.
Go Grocery Shopping - Sounds easy right? I find many people either do not take the time to go to the store or they go without a list! Do not go without a list! Every time I go without my list I end up with things we do not need and I forget things we do need. I write my grocery list from the meal plan. My big grocery trip is usually on Saturday or Sunday early in the morning before the store gets busy.
Get your family involved.
Meal Prep - I meal prep for about 4 days. I cook chicken, boil eggs, wash and cut veggies and fruits and make sure I have all the ingredients I need for the week. I usually plan a quick run to the store on Thursday to replenish or pick up some fresh veggies and fruits.
Get Your Family Involved- I have 3 kids who are picky eaters so one thing I did this time is had them each go through my new Fixate Cook book and pick different recipes they wanted me to make. It was fun for them and is a great way for them to be involved. I also have my kids help me with meal prep. Yes it can be a challenge at times but it is a great way for them to learn about food and to spend time with them.
Consistency is really the key to success with planning.
Lets talk exercise! Now that the kids are going back to school, what does your day look like? I work, and for me, I find the best time to workout is the morning. This routine has changed during different seasons of life, but right now, the best way to kick off my day is with exercise. I workout at 5:30am. I get up at 5am, down my Energize, do a 20 minute devotional and then get my workout in. I lay out my clothes the night before and I know exactly which workout I will do in the morning. Figure out what works best for YOU and YOUR schedule. You may have to experiment but I do recommend finding a time of day that is consistent and sticking to it. Consistency is really the key to success with planning. If you are consistent it becomes a habit.
